Module 2 – Introduction to Hardware in Aluminium Systems
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the role of hardware in system performance and compliance.
- Identify key regulations and testing requirements.
Content:
Hardware isn’t just an add-on — it defines how aluminium windows, doors, and façades function. Correct specification ensures:
- Performance — weather resistance, durability, smooth operation.
- Security — compliance with PAS 24 and Secured by Design.
- Certification — CE/UKCA marking and adherence to EN standards.
Key standards to know:
- EN 13126 series — performance of window and door hardware.
- PAS 24 — enhanced security performance.
- Secured by Design (SBD) — police-backed specification.
- Part K / Part M / Part F — UK Building Regulations affecting safety, accessibility, and ventilation.
